The Bookstall exists with three aims in mind:
    • to encourage members of the congregation to read Christian books.
    • to provide a selection of titles to folk, available in the church.
    • to make a small profit, which is given to our Mission Partners.

    Getting Involved:

The Bookstall is currently run by Dom, Shelley & Miranda. With holidays, work commitments etc, there are times when we need further helpers to fall back on.
Interested in either helping regularly or occassionally? Contact the church office, email, or speak to one of us.
    Many thanks, Dom

Richard Rhodes James has recently published his third book, The Road From Mandalay. Either seek Richard out, or buy this book from the Bookstall.

    Recommendations & Reviews

FINDING REST When the Work is Never Done.
    by Patrick Klingaman

    Your review welcome.
From the dustcover; If you are wondering if you have any time in your busy schedule to read about rest, it's probably a clue you need this book!
Our culture moves at such a breathless pace that, for many, the mere thought of rest is a pipe dream. People everywhere seem to be doing more and more, yet falling further and further behind.
Author Patrick Klingaman helps you evluate where you are on the "work/rest" spectrum and where you want to be. He explores such topics as:
  • Resting your body, mind, heart and soul.
  • Scheduling your life with purpose
  • Rediscovering the Sabbath
  • Creating rest where you live, work and worship.
  • Finding restoration through retreat.

  • Cafe Theology
    by Michael Lloyd

    Your review welcome.
From the dustcover; In Cafe Theology, Mike invites us to grab a cappuccino and travel with him on a mind-stretching journey from Creation to New-Creation, offering a rich and human view of Life and Life-Giver. This is a unique journey because Mike has an inimitable gift for mixing insightful theology with unflinching honesty and a fantastic sense of humour, often bordering on a darkish shade of grey.
Whether we've been on the Christian journey our whole life, we're just starting out or haven't even bought a ticket, this extrodinary book is applicable to our ordinary lives, longings, and in Mike's words'our feeble and frustrated fumblings after an understanding of who we are and what we are for.'

    Reflections from the Scorched Earth
    by Ed Walker

    Your review welcome.
From the dustcover; As the longest serving overseas member of Tearfund's Disaster Management Team, Ed, despite his youth has served in five wae zones and a deough-striken area.
This is an account of his reflections and reactions as he searches for the God of hope anidst enormous suffering and deep despair. It tells poignant, sad but also hopeful stories, mingling diary entries with reflections and arresting narrative. Despite the horrors he faces, again and again Ed is able to discern "the glimmering shadow of God at work admidst the madness."
    The War Torn
    by Nick Solly Megoran.

    Your review welcome.
From the dustcover; Nick combines an acute political knowledge with a rich appreciation of the Bible and true stories of hope to demonstrate how Christians can live courageously through the war on terror.
Airports are in chaos as a terror plot is uncovered. Suicide bombers bring cities to a standstill.
The rules of war are changing. Across the globe, terror strategies strike cold fear into the hearts of ordinary citizens, as innocent people become legitimate targets for bloodshed. For many the 'war on terror' throws up troubling questions:
  • Who really has right on their side?
  • How far should we go in protecting innocents?
  • How can ordinary Christians influence for good a world dominated by tarnished politicians and brutal terrorists?
  • And, crucially, how can God's message of love and reconciliation be heard?

  • Daily Bible Reading Notes

There are a wealth of Daily Bible Study Notes written to help with your quiet time each day.

I remember a seminar leader at SpringHarvest asking for hands up "Who has a daily Quiet Time?" Loads of hands went up.
Who does Every Other Day With Jesus A lot of hands went up, some the same as before and some different.
And finally, who does "Every Now & Then with Jesus?"
Fewer hands went up, but still some the same as went up for the first answer.

Many of us aim to have a daily time which we set aside to read the bible and talk to God, all too easily this gets pushed aside. Once we miss a day or two it's harder to restart because we feel guilty...

I think it is important to move on from that, if you miss time with God, say sorry and start again - don't let it get in the way.
So, what Bible Study Notes are available? Listed below are those I can think of. As time goes by I will add comments. If you would like to recommend or review some Study Notes email me!

Some of the notes are available in Large Print mostly at no extra charge.
