As students at St Barnabas we're trying to work out how to love and serve God with our whole lives. This means both hanging out together and getting involved in the life of the rest of the church family. So, here are some of the things we get up to:
Facebook
We have a facebook group here: www.facebook.com/bookmarks/groups#!/barneysstudents
If you're a new student or are interested in finding out what students get up to here in more detail, do join the group and ask us there. We also post events there.
Student Lunch
After the morning service, come and join other students for lunch at a café on Mill Road, or a picnic on Parker's Piece in the summer. We meet in the Square (between the Main Hall and the Church Entrance). A member of the student team will be holding an upside down broom marked “Student Lunch”. This is a great way to meet other students, and share life, everything from the profound to the ridiculous.
Family Lunch
One lunchtime a term, we also have lunch with a family from the Church, to get to know them a bit better. Visit the Facebook group for more details.
Student Discussions
Twice a term we meet up after the evening service to work out what God has to say about the things that affect our lives. In the past we've had discussions about homelessness, sex and relationships, ethical living, work and stress etc; but we're open for suggestions of other topics. There is always chocolate involved.
Clusters (larger midweek groups) and Homegroups (smaller midweek groups) meet alternate weeks for prayer, Bible study and fellowship, and welcome student members. It's a great way to get to know “real people”, get some good food and and keep your feet on the ground outside of the mad student world. Check out the Cluster board in the Square or ask one of the student team for a recommendation.
One-To-Ones
If you'd like an opportunity to meet up regularly with an older church member for a chat and a pray, get in touch with Tim Campion-Smith (tc365@cam.ac.uk). This could just be for a short “Spiritual MOT” or a longer-term ongoing mentoring thing.
Serving on a Sunday
There are a million and one ways to get involved and use your gifts to serve the church from kids work to the sound desk to the sung worship team, and it's always appreciated. Have a chat with one of the student team or check out the information sheets at the welcome desk for details.
If you'd like to find out more about any of what goes on, or to be added to the email list, contact Tim Campion-Smith (tc365@cam.ac.uk) or anyone else from the current student team. All of our photos are on the student board in the Square, where you'll also find the current programme. Do come and say hi.
International Students
Barn International
This is an international student café which runs on Thursday evenings, with conversation, dancing, quizzes, and more. It takes place in our upstairs room, called the Barn. It's run by Friends International, so for more details click here.
